Behind the behaviour is a brain that can't regulate itself

What you’re watching every morning, every homework session, every school pickup isn’t defiance, and it isn’t a parenting problem. What you’re watching is a nervous system that is stuck โ€” chronically, neurologically stuck โ€” in a state of sympathetic overdrive it cannot exit.

In children with ADHD, the prefrontal cortex โ€” the part of the brain governing impulse control, emotional regulation, and attention โ€” is underperforming. Not through lack of effort, but because the communication pathway between brain and body is functionally impaired. A brain receiving unclear signals cannot regulate itself. So it doesn’t.

Why medication and behavioural support only go so far

Medication addresses the dopamine deficit during the hours it’s active. Behavioural strategies give your child tools to manage what their nervous system is already doing. Both have value โ€” and neither touches the underlying dysregulation driving it all.

This is why the reward charts stop working after two weeks. Why the OT strategies don’t transfer to Tuesday morning at the kitchen table. Why your child holds it together at school and releases everything the moment they walk through your door โ€” because the nervous system underneath hasn’t changed. It’s still in the same dysregulated state it was before the therapy, before the chart, before the session. Managing a dysregulated nervous system is not the same as regulating it.

The Vibrant Life Approach

Most practitioners treating ADHD are working with the behaviour they can see. At Vibrant Life, we work with the nervous system producing it. For over 20 years we have been applying a brain-based approach to ADHD in Dublin.

Before we recommend anything, we need to see exactly what is happening inside your child’s nervous system. Before any care plan is agreed or adjustment is made, we use the NeuroInfiniti Stress Response Evaluation โ€” a 12-minute, non-invasive assessment that gives us an objective picture of how your child’s nervous system is actually handling stress.

From there, we build a care plan around what we find โ€” combining brain-based chiropractic, neurofeedback, and BrainTap technology to work directly with the neurological patterns keeping your child’s nervous system locked in chronic activation.

Brain-Based Chiropractic Adjustments

The spine is the primary communication pathway between the brain and the body. When there is tension or structural interference anywhere along that pathway, the brain cannot send or receive the clear, consistent signals it needs to develop and self-regulate.

Our paediatric chiropractic adjustments are gentle, precise, and specifically adapted for a child’s developing nervous system. When spinal interference is reduced, the brain-body communication pathway begins to clear. Parents often notice the shift before they expect to โ€” less edge in the mornings, a slightly longer gap between trigger and explosion, a child who seems fractionally more available than they were before.

Neurofeedback Therapy

Neurofeedback works on a principle that matters: you cannot change what you cannot measure. During a session, your child wears a comfortable headset that reads their brainwave activity in real time. When the brain produces patterns associated with calm, sustained focus, it receives an immediate positive signal โ€” typically through a visual on screen.

Over a course of sessions, the brain begins to self-correct. It learns, through direct feedback, to produce regulated patterns more consistently โ€” not just during sessions, but across the nervous system’s daily function.

BrainTap

One of the most consistent things parents of children with ADHD report is that their child cannot switch off. The brain that has been running at full capacity all day โ€” compensating, masking, and endlessly managing โ€” does not know how to downshift at night. This is not a sleep habit problem. It is a nervous system problem.

BrainTap uses precisely calibrated combinations of light and sound to guide the brain out of chronic sympathetic activation and into genuine rest. Sessions run 15 to 20 minutes โ€” used alongside chiropractic care and neurofeedback as part of a coordinated approach to moving your child’s nervous system toward regulation across the full 24-hour cycle.

What parents notice as care progresses.

We won’t promise overnight miracles as the nervous system takes time to shift. What we can tell you is what parents consistently report as their child’s brain and nervous system begin to regulate.

Mornings that start closer to calm.

Less dysregulation before the school day has even begun, which changes the trajectory of everything that follows.

A longer gap between trigger and explosion.

The pause that wasn’t there before. That fraction of a second is where self-regulation begins to grow.

Unprompted positives from school.

Teachers notice changes without being asked. A different conversation at the school gate.

A brain that can actually switch off at night.

Falling asleep in under thirty minutes, sleeping through, waking closer to rested. Everything else improves when sleep does.

A child who is starting to see themselves differentlyย

Less frustration, less self-criticism. The story they’re telling about who they are is beginning to change.

What Happens When You Get In Touch

01- Book A Consultation

The first visit begins with listening. Your child’s full history, your concerns, what you’ve already tried, what hasn’t worked and why.

02- NeuroInfiniti Stress Response Evaluation

Before any care begins, we conduct a full neurophysiological assessment โ€” measuring brainwave activity, heart rate variability, muscle tension, skin conductance, and respiratory patterns. Simultaneously, objectively, in real time.

03- Personalised Care Plan

On your second visit, we go through everything we found. We explain what we’re seeing in your child’s nervous system, how it connects to what you’ve been living with at home, and exactly what we’re going to do about it.

04- Regular Care and Progress Measurement

Regular visits are focused and efficient, with progress evaluations built in throughout. We measure nervous system function directly, so you always have an objective picture of where things stand.

FAQ

Absolutely. Paediatric chiropractic care is gentle, safe, and specifically adapted for children’s developing bodies. The adjustments used for children are very different from adult adjustments โ€” there is no forceful manipulation. Many children find their sessions enjoyable and calming.

We never advise parents to stop or reduce medication without working closely with their prescribing doctor. What we do is support the underlying neurological function that may be driving ADHD symptoms. Many families find that as neurological health improves, conversations with their medical team about medication naturally evolve. That is always a decision made between you, your child, and their doctor.

We see children from newborns through to teenagers. For ADHD specifically, the earlier we can support the developing nervous system, the better โ€” but it is never too late to begin.

Every child is different. Some parents notice changes within the first few weeks of care. For others it takes longer, particularly where there has been significant developmental delay. We assess progress regularly and will always give you an honest picture of how your child is responding.

No referral is needed. Whether your child has a formal ADHD diagnosis or you simply have concerns about their focus, behaviour, or development, we welcome you to book a consultation
